Does the Bible Talk About That

I have just recently completed an eight-part Bible study entitled "Does the Bible Talk About That?"

TV shows, movies, magazines, books and the internet are full of strange theories and ideas about issues of the paranormal, extra-terrestrial and life beyond the grave. But just what does the Bible have to say about any of these strange but popular issues? Find out in this study as we find out how the Bible speaks to these fascinating topics. - As promised the complete series is online here:

I would love to hear your comments or questions, thanks for letting me share with you.

Blessings,
Jesse

Christ in You

“…I became a minister according to the stewardship from God which was given to me for you, to fulfill the word of God, the mystery which has been hidden from ages and from generations, but now has been revealed to His saints. To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.”   (Col. 1:25-27)

What amazing truth – The Lord Jesus Christ lives in believers, if you are a believer let me restate that… The Lord Jesus Christ lives in you.   Think about Who it is that is who lives in you and what that means for your life…

·         Christ – The anointed One – He was chosen, promised, provided
·         Christ – The all knowing One- He knows enough to get you through
·         Christ – The all wise One –He knows what to do with the information He has
·         Christ – Everywhere One – He is never taken by surprise
·         Christ – The all loving One – He has the best of intentions for you
·         Christ-  The all gracious One – He is generous with  you
·         Christ – The always with you One – He will never abandon you.
·         Christ  - The all faithful One – He will never let you down
·         Christ – The sympathetic  One – He understands you

Not only is it amazing that HE lives in you.  Think about the reality that He lives in YOU!  Think about you for the moment…

·         You the unlikely
·         You the undeserving
·         You the previously unknowing
·         You who have hope through Him
·         You who have a divine hope since it is Him

All of the above brings us to a simple point are you living and serving as if (for He is) Jesus is within you?  I mean really within you?  I mean really within you right this moment?  I mean really within you right this moment and always?  I confess I often don’t but thank you Paul for the reminder from Colossians 1:25-27.

The Stages of Motherhood

(This list is not original - and I have no author to attribute it to)

The Stages Of Motherhood
Here is a light hearted presentation of what we all think about our moms, at different points of our lives. Don't get surprised because we all have the same tendency towards our mothers!

4 Years Of Age - My Mommy can do anything;
8 Years Of Age - My Mom knows a lot! A whole lot
12 Years Of Age -My Mother doesn't really know quite everything.
14 Years Of Age -Naturally, Mother doesn't know that, either
16 Years Of Age -Mother? She's hopelessly old-fashioned
18 Years Of Age -That old woman? She's way out of date
25 Years Of Age -Well, she might know a little bit about it
35 Years Of Age -Before we decide, let's get Mom's opinion
45 Years Of Age -Wonder what Mom would have thought about it
65 Years Of Age -Wish, I could talk it over with Mom

Questions to ask when you read the Bible

Questions are wonderful things.  If you ask the right questions, if you ask them often you will discover more than you ever expected.  This is never more true than when you read the Bible.  We must push beyond just reading; we should push forward in our understand by interacting with the the text by asking questions.  In order to get you started I offer the following list of questions. In addition to some that are common to various Bible study systems, I have collected a few more from Rick Warren, Steven Lawson, Andy Rau and Doug Britton (thanks guys) and I now offer them to you.  May God use this to open His truth to you in new and life-changing ways.

  1. Is there a command to obey?
  2. Is there an exampe to follow?
  3. Is there a promise to claim?
  4. Is there a sin to avoid?
  5. Is there a principle to follow?
  6. What did this Scripture mean when it was written?
  7. What is the timeless truth behind what God is saying?
  8. How does it apply now to me?
  9. What do we know about the context and origin of this text?
  10. Does this passage respond to or challenge any specific events, trends, or behaviors?
  11. What does this passage reveal about God and his purposes?
  12. And how does the glimpse of God seen in this passage compare to depictions of God elsewhere in the Bible?
  13. Where does this passage fit into the “story” of the Bible?
  14. What Bible stories came before this one, leading up to it?
  15. What stories come after, building on it?
  16. What picture of God’s people does this passage paint?
  17. What values and ideals does this passage hold up for us?
  18. If the passage criticizes God’s people or shows them behaving badly, what values can we identify by their absence?
  19. Does this text point us to the future?
  20. What promises, foreshadowings of future events, or other groundwork does this passage lay down for us?
  21. What questions about your own faith today do you want to ask of, or introduce into, this passage?
  22. What questions does this passage ask you?
  23. What do you think is the key message of this chapter?
  24. What did you learn from this chapter?
  25. Which point in this chapter spoke to you the most?
  26. Why do you think God included this chapter in the Bible? What’'s the point?
  27. Do any of these truths written thousands of years ago apply today? If so, which ones? How do they apply?
  28. Are there truths in this chapter that contradict the ideas we hear in the world? If so, what are they?
  29. Is there something in this chapter that surprised you? If so, how were you surprised?
  30. Are there any verses in this chapter that confuse you or that seem to contradict other parts of the Bible?
  31. In view of what we have read, what changes do you think God would want you to make in attitude, words, or actions?

God Can Bless Your Mess

The next time you feel like your life is a complete mess and there is no possibility of recovery, think about the people whose lives are recorded in the Bible.  You know those heroes of the faith…

Eve was deceived
Adam was disobedient
Noah had a drinking problem cursed his grandson
Abraham was too old
So was Sarah
Lot was a compromiser
Isaac went blind
Rebekah played favorites
Jacob was a liar
Leah was ugly
Joseph was abused
Moses had a stuttering problem / murderer
Miriam was a gossip
Gideon was  coward
Samson was a womanizer
Rahab was a prostitute
Jeremiah and Timothy were too young
David was an Adulterer and a murderer
Elijah was suicidal
Jonah ran from God
Naomi was a widow
So was Ruth
Job went bankrupt
Hosea had a bad marriage
Mary was a teenager
So was Daniel
Matthew was an extortionist
Mary Magdalen was demon possessed
Peter denied Christ
The Disciples deserted Jesus
Thomas was a doubter
Martha worried about everything
The Samaritan woman divorced 5 times
Zaccheus was too short
Paul was was an accessory to murder
John Mark was a quitter
Timothy had weak stomach
Lazarus was dead!

And yet God did use them in spite of the mess.  So no matter your mess, give it to God.  Love Him, serve Him.  Watch what He can do with a messy person.
